ICT Thursday

Once a Month on a Thursday I have the two boys.

Normally I have them Sunday mornings to Tuesday Evening and on occasion to Wednesday morning as well as some Saturdays, so it is always nice to have them for an extra day. However this does interrupt the home schooling plan and set up.

As I have said before we are semi structured ish. So for me to keep to a non structured day for a Thursday we usually explore in the afternoon,  yet, I decided that on a Thursday morning we would base all our subjects around ICT. The idea behind this is to layer the subjects together and subsequently always have a them with ICT.

So for today's ICT Thursday we linked in our literacy topic of poetry; exploring senses through descriptive words. As well as our literacy we included our Numeracy, finding our topic of subtraction with interactive games.

We continued this with our science where we explored different stages of growth (concentrating this week on Frogs and their different forms) this was mainly picture exploration and discussion.

The thing I enjoy the most about ICT Thursday is that it's a change of pace and setting.  It engages William in a completely different way of learning within something that he deems fun and cool. Whilst doing that we are multi layering different topics.  Covering different ICT requirements like, mouse control, typing, coordination,  cutting and pasting, saving and Internet searching. It is far the easiest and most laid back morning we have and as the saying goes a change is as good as a rest, so it breathes a breath of fresh air into our week.

I wouldn't advise it too often as it would lose that independent freedom in comparison to the rest of the week.  However, saying that, I would much prefer to get at least another half day of ICT in but there always seems so much to do.

Do you have separated lesson themes to layer topics? What do you do? And does it work?

I have posted some pictures below to show what we've been doing today.
